Diary No. 5- Create the Perfect Outfit Series

Dear Reader,

What would be your perfect outfit? I know that for me, I would be in a suit and tie every single day if I could. Now I work in the dental field and for a long time scrubs were the only thing I could wear, needless to say I could not pull those off. I wish I could look like these medical or dental social media influencers that tuck in their scrub shirt and immediately look like they should be on a runway, but I just look like the little round things from Willy Wonka, what were they called? Oompa Loompas? Anyways, after my promotion at work came, I would be lying if I did not admit that what made me most excited was not the pay raise, but it was fact that I could now dress up. Needless to say the comments I get about how dressed up I am for the dental office are many, but EVERYONE acknowledges that I look good and inevitably I feel good. So with all this being said I would like to share a series of looks as part of this blog that show what my perfect outfits are and why I style them in the way that I do, so lets begin.

Foundation

Lets begin with a nice foundation, and to do this I will start with my go to, a suit. Now I do agree with the common believe that ox blood is a perfect fall/winter color. Personally I like ox blood as a statement part of the outfit not as the main aspect, I want it to be the pop of color. So I would start with a nice lavender/lilac suit that leans more on the grayish side, but when the light hits it just right there is no doubt that it in fact is more on the side of the purple hues. This color of suit would serve then as the background on which the ox blood will display on. You can snatch this beautiful suit on the Nordstrom website for just $249 USD thanks to the current holiday sales. You can find it under the color description of: Burgundy Roma Cosshatch.

The Center Piece

Next I move to the center piece, and because I already know for this outfit I want Ox Blood as the focal point, I would choose this classic roll neck in this gorgeous deep color. The over all look would almost come across as monochromatic at this point, but with an edge, since the richness of the color on this roll neck would make a very nice contrast with the suit. Now there is no need to break the bank, this lovely turtle neck will come in multiple colors aside from the ox blood, on the Hawes and Curtis website for only $89 USD. However roll necks similar to this one can be found on Amazon for around $30-40 USD.

The framing: Accessories

I am obsessed with this, literally one of the most stunning pieces I have seen. Now I do not consider myself a Polo Ralph Lauren man (even though I would say it is in fact a power house gentlemen's brand). Many of their pieces seemed very simple with a higher price tag, but recently I have been developing an interest in the brand and pieces like this one are the reason why. This lovely silk houndstooth scarf with the fringe and the portrait of the hounds made me stop my endless scroll on MR. PORTER and immediately add to wish list. I know for a fact I will be buying this piece this weekend to wear for my gentlemen's trip to New York City in a couple of weeks. I would simply place this around my neck and tuck it partly into the buttoned suit jacket with the houndstooth pattern peeking just enough to add texture to the over all look. Then whenever I am about to sit down for a drink at lets say the Polo Bar in NYC, I can remove my jacket to reveal the portrait of the hounds on the scarf, continuing the element of elegant surprise. This piece will run you $160 USD on MR. PORTER.

Chocolate brown Seiko Presage with a Burgundy Guilloche face, you can find this beautiful automatic watch on Amazon for $340 USD. It would compliment the Ox Blood roll neck and make a statement every time you put your hand out to sip from your perfectly crafted Negroni (in my opinion a perfect gentleman's cocktail).

What better way to finish a look than with a touch of Mezlan hailing in from Spain. This beautiful loafer which you can find on the Mezlan website under the name Pavese Suede Tassled Slip On, is currently on sale for $245 USD from $375 USD. These excellently crafted hand burnished suede loafers are a show stopper, complementing the brown from the watch strap on the Seiko Presage, highlighting the brown of the Polo Hounds Scarf, adding another statement element to the overall look, and yet harmonizing with the rest of the outfit.

A Gentleman's day out

So allow me to ask you once again, what is your ideal outfit? I hope that my ideal gentleman's day outfit (in my book it would be going to the city, spending time with some of my closest associates, getting a good coffee, meal, and finishing at a classic speakeasy style bar) that I have concocted will inspire you to continue tailoring your ideal look. It is perfect for a day in which you go out and treat yourself in a way that is appropriate for you or if you are anything like me, sporting this outfit at the office. While this particular look is composed of multiple unique pieces, there is no doubt that all together you have an outfit that will be sure to turn heads and more importantly, make you feel comfortable and truly satisfied with your perfect outfit.

Yours Truly,

S.E. Vega
